Behind Closed Doors

Silence breeds abuse. While many people assume that "no one knows what happens behind closed doors", that is not necessarily accurate. Those who live behind those doors, know exactly what happens. People can hide the truth from the outside world, but the truth can't hide behind closed doors. "Behind Closed Doors" is a song written from the perspective of a child who is stuck in an abusive home situation, begging his mother to leave the abuser. We encourage their listeners to consider donating their time or resources to local charities (such as GreenHouse17 in Kentucky) to help survivors of intimate partner abuse.

Behind Closed Doors

Acke-Adams

under the covers i would hide, just to drown out their screaming
although i didn’t like the sound, at least i knew she was breathing
sometimes i’d try to help, i’d try to show her, what she wasn’t seeing
but you can’t help someone who hasn't made their mind up yet for leaving

behind closed doors, are paper thin walls
bruises under makeup, excuses line the halls

bible by the bed, but not a prayer is spoke
rush to pick the pieces up, only we know they’re broke
the truth can’t hide, behind closed doors

she has taught me how to lie, when you know there’s no forgiveness
i don’t sleep real well at night, dreaming 'bout the things i’ve witnessed
i have begged her, i have cried, i have prayed that she would listen
if i could run i’d run away, just to end this hell i'm living

behind closed doors, are paper thin walls
bruises under makeup, excuses line the halls

bible by the bed, but not a prayer is spoke
rush to pick the pieces up, only we know they’re broke

it's taken its toll, on my body and soul
but no one really knows, the truth can't hide
